CRM-DEVEL ADMIN: Junk mail on the forum

Good Morning CRMers -

Looks like we have a little "dust up", as we say here in Texas. As the
list administrator for CRM-DEVEL, let me straighten things out so we can
get back to the business of discussing CRM and Human Factors training
and development.

As stated on the Industry CRM Developers web site, this mailing list is
"a forum to identify needs, coordinate processes, and facilitate
development of airline CRM and HF resources and products." Over the two
years of its existence, our audience has expanded to include military
and non-aviation applications of CRM/HF. We have not, however, changed
our rather narrow subject matter focus away from the development and
presentation of CRM/HF training products.

The AIRJET newsletter appears to be well done and useful. Brian has
every right to be proud of it. Unfortunately, it covers a much wider
scope of aviation subjects than the CRM-DEVEL list. Little, if any, of
AIRJET's content supports the narrow definition of the CRM-DEVEL
mission, including media reports of "passengers acting badly".

General netiquette, as it has evolved on the Internet over the last ten
years, discourages distributing one mailing list via another mailing
list. It is preferable that anyone who has an interest in a given
mailing list should subscribe directly. Undesired email has generally
come to be refered to as "spam", which is the electronic equivelent of
paper junk mail. By this definition, distribution of the AIRJET
newsletters via CRM-DEVEL fit the definition of spam for an undetermined
percentage of our members.

In short, while I would personally consider subscribing to AIRJET as an
individual, I do not see it supporting this forum's goals. I appreciate
Brian's promise to suspend distribution of AIRJET via CRM-DEVEL. I
encourage any of the CRM-DEVEL members who find it useful to subscribe
to AIRJET directly.

Finally, from time to time we will find that our discussions take us
outside the goals of this forum. I would like to invite anyone who is
interested in discussing non-CRM/HF aviation topics to join me on my
personal conferencing system at:

http://www.communityware.com/asp/community.asp?id=2288

At that location, we can discuss everything *EXCEPT* CRM/HF with
professionalism and respect.

Best regards,
Neil Krey

Philip--

Thank you for your well reasoned thoughts on this issue. I was going to
to
ignore some of the comments that I have seen, but I was inspired
otherwise to express my thoughts on the subject.

AirJet is produced six times per week. Unless there is relevant material
associated with this forum, I do not normally send the entire issue.
However, I have sent selected articles of interest. And, yes I have sent
entire issues in error which is my mistake.

Let me assure those that might be interested, AirJet is non-profit and
for educational purposes only. Additionally, there is a great deal of
time and expense that goes into the production without asking for
anything in return.

This "cheap spam" otherwise known as AirJet Airline World News goes to
several thousand members around the globe. It is read daily by airline
executives, pilots and other employees at just about every airline on
the planet. It is read by organizations such as IATA, ICAO, ALPA, AFA,
FAA, NTSB, and others. It is read by leading aerospace manufactures
such as Fairchild/Dornier, Boeing, MDC, Airbus, Bombardier, SAAB, and
others. It is read by respected representatives from Airline Business,
Air Transport World, Aviation Week & Space Technology, Air Cargo World,
and others. It is read by students, aviation enthusiast, and others
that dream someday of being associated with the aviation and airline
business.

There are events that take place everyday in this business that, on the
surface, may not seem to be relevant to the issues associated with CRM.
However, one must look at the whole picture when it involves CRM -- The
corporate strategy and mindset of a company, the financial situation,
incident and accidents, union and other labour issues, alliances and
code-sharing, executive turnover, regulatory compliance, reputation and
image, and much, much more.

There are many more pieces to the puzzle than people realize when it
comes to air safety.

I apologize if some perceive my contributions as "cheap spam." The good
thing is, I have learned what the meaning of "cheap spam" is now. I had
always thought it was those stealthy messages I got in my own email
in-box that said: "Be a millionaire over night stuffing envelopes in the
privacy of your won home -- Send $29.95 to the address below for your
personal starter kit."

The term "discussion group" seemed fairly obvious to me, but I seem to
be confused about a lot of things lately. I will no longer post
extraneous "cheap spam" in the future, just the relevant "cheap spam."
;->

Cheers,

Brian..............
