G'Day

Some more thoughts on an important topic.

I strongly support the line in Jeffrey's second paragraph. To my mind,
the only worthwhile form of certification is that which is acceptable
to the community at large. There are two steps or pre-conditions here.

The first is that as much aviation training as possible should be
conducted within an academic structure and environment that ensures
that all attainment, including crm training, is accreditable - eg,
toward a degree or graduate diploma. (This is beginning to happen in
Australia.) If testing also takes place under a recognised academic
regime then it will be the more respected - and better accepted by the
community.

The second is that aviation should be moving towards achieving full
status as a profession. (Step One is vital for us to make it to
there.) Along the way, let's not re-invent the wheel. Emulate. Do what
the other professions do. Go down to your local branch of the
Associatation, Bar Association, Institute of Architects, Engineers,
whatever, and check out their management structures and processes.
They have well-defined accreditation 'rules' both for entry to the
profession and continuing professional education.

You might be a tad overwhelmed at the thought of our ever getting from
where we now are to where the other professions are, but the first
small steps can be taken, eg, through accreditation, with the longer
aim always in mind.

Cheers

Doug
