The company procedure is for the captain to take over some time in the second
segment prior to the engine shutdown. However during training in the sim we hardly
ever do the handover as when it is the co-pilot turn, he is expected to continue flying
and calling for checklists, to show his handling ability and command potential.
I must agree that a low level handover could be risky but that is the way we are
expected to fly.
