My name is Oscar Quintero; I am a Medical Doctor; Psychiatrist, FAA AME.
Living in Guatemala, C.A. (I was born here in fact !). As a private pilot
I have had a lot of experiences during my time in the Guatemalan Army
first, and then I was for some more time in the Guatemalan Air Force
Hospital at one of the country bases.
I actually work for the TACA group as Manager of the Aviation Medicine
and Human Factors Department, so my area deals exclusively with these
issues (HF, CRM, Medical certificates for pilots, etc.). One of my main
interest areas is the Culture in all the expressions and in relation with
flying of course.
I'll be glad to exchange ideas and thoughts about this fascinating world
of the aviation HF and CRM
About husband and wife flying together I have a couple of cases on that
around here:
The first one is a case in wich a girl devoted her everyday activities to
learn flying with one Captain who worked in an small airline; They got
married and after a time (something around 3 or 4 years) she became
first FO and then Captain in the airline; since they started flying
as a crew the guy changed and became frankly paternalist to the
wife's acting in the cockpit............Though he was very proud
telling everybody that his wife was the best FO he could ever dreamed
about.....she obeyed everything and never said no.
The captain had a car accident and during the time he was out of
bussines, the lady had three consecutive incidents landing and in
route (she got lost during the last one), finally she quited flying
for the airline and went her own way as an instructor. To make it
short they started to have more diferences and finished divorced,
because the lady was no more a reason of pride for the Captain.
The second one is a story of a couple that went great once they were not
flying ! they worked together for a Flying Taxi Bussines (with 5 medium
airplanes-6-8 passengers that is). during fligth they used to get angry
because the way they liked to fly, aproach, and do procedures (since they
were their own bosses they never structured a real set of procedures for
operations), one of highlights here is that they insisted in flying as a
crew ! (Sado-Masochists ?!!), they ended also divorcing. How safe could
it have been in both of the cases ???...
Have a great day; cheers
Oscar
