Well said, Lorenzo. The ability to tactfully say no is a very diffcult
skillto learn. Most of the helicopter pilots that I work with grew up
in a military system that prized "getting the job done" above everything
else. Of course getting the job done was defined more by doing what
your customer/commander wanted than by safety concerns.

I try to instill in them the idea that getting the job done must include
the safety element. That element is implied in the customers demands
and the professional pilot must make the issue explicit when the demands
will compromise safety.
