Although this is primarily an engineering conference, there were numerous
references to human factors issues and an entire track on human factors was
included in the three day conference. Specific references to the importance
of human factors in both design and operation were made by John Lauber
(Delta), Alan Mulally (Boeing), and Phil Condit (Boeing).
Guy Thiel (FAA Flight Test) summarized the Human Factors Task Force Report
and Bill Connor (Delta and SAE G-10 Chairman) briefly introduced the action
plan for the G-10 automation and training sub-committees in responding to the
HFTF report recommendations. The following comments from Bill should be of
interest to B-B members:
"The Automation Subcommittee and the Training Subcommittee of SAE G-10 will
jointly tackle the training issues put forth by the HF Team. The Training
Subcommittee is already addressing CRM Standardization and what needs to be
specifically addressed during initial and recurrent training."
The next meeting of G-10 will be in Florida during early February.
