It has been suggested that it is easier for pilots to be
introduced to CRM concepts at the beginning of their career,
rather than having to possibly 'unlearn' the habits of a lifetime
during a later career transition. This implies integrating CRM
with initial flight training.
One key problem seems to be how to teach (and evaluate)
teamwork skills to pilots about to fly solo. Other CRM concepts
such as situational awareness and pilot judgement seem to reflect
traditional flying skills under new names.
I have heard that the University of North Dakota in its
Spectrum flying program, and Embry - Riddle A. U., have been
involved in similar efforts. I would be interested in contacting
anyone who would like to share their hard-won expertise and
knowledge with a similar program at the University of NSW in
Sydney, Australia.
