Well, I can't think of a better way than practice and feedback. Using
video tape to allow the instructor to self-critique is also valuable.
After several repetitions most instructors will "get it". This, of
course, does not address those who do not agree with this approach.
For some, the notion that "I am the expert and if I don't TELL them
how they did they will not learn anything" is strongly ingrained.
Oddly, the person who has little or no previous instructor experiance
is less prone to this attitude. Old paradigms die hard for the
seasoned instructors, I guess.

With the "monitoring" approach to instructor refresher, you are really
working at a disadvantage. The key to changing both behavior and
attitude is to give the instructor a change to see that the technique
really DOES work for THEM. Some will give it a try on their own, but
most will not stray far from the comfort zone. After all, the
instructor's favorite sound is the sound of HIS voice.
