Hi Neil,

I liked your discussion on open and closed probes. Very good stuff. I'll look
up the Paul Williams reference. The next question is , "How do we help
instructors (Facilitators) to learn how to formulate such probes?" I think most
have the theoretical idea, but their questions often aren't "open probe"
questions. With new instructors we have practice and feedback sessions, it
works fairly well. But our veteran instructors don't come back for refresher
training, so Tony Sasso and I use the "monitoring" approach. We sit in on
actual debriefs and give the instructor some feedback afterwards. Two
drawbacks:
1. We don't see too many instructors. There are 600 of them and two of us.
(Don't say the "headcount" word!!)
2. This learning method is "Feedback Only." We give them the feedback after
their debrief session, but we are not able to go back and see if the feedback
had any effect.

Does anybody have different ideas? Tell us how you do it. If anybody has
facilitator refresher training for veteran instructors, I'd like to hear about
it - how often? What do you cover? etc.

Regards, Guy
