Oscar,

We're doing fighter recurrent training that focuses on the "downshifting"
that the brain does under stress. Since there is a physiological
reaction that occurs (as well as the mental changes that everyone is more
familiar with), we try to help pilots recognize the physical and mental
symptoms. If they don't take positive, corrective action to the
indicators, a "hijacking" of the brain occurs and major problems in
cognitive thought and decision making follow. As in loss of SA,
identifying the warning signs appears to be significantly better than
reacting to the loss.

Please contact me if I can provide additional information.
