In plain language, metrics are the tools and methods used to measure something.
The dictionary defines metric as "a standard of measurement".
As a fellow professional pilot, I also like operational simplicity. Einstein
once said "I wouldn't give a fig for the simplicity on this side of complexity.
I would give my right arm for the simplicity on the other side of complexity."
To the pilots, instructors, and corporate managers who are the end users of the
metrics it should look simple. This simplicity, however, is only gained by
understanding and harnessing the complexity.
(e.g. Using your mouse to point at things on your computer screen appears to be
simple and most people don't really care how it works. I am sure that 20 years
ago, a group of interested designers had some online discussions like we are
having here about the design complexities of making a cursor move across the
screen using a mouse. I am glad that I missed those discussions.)
Most pilots, instructors, and managers don't care how the metrics are
engineered...only that they work. Since this is a developer's forum, I think
that this is the appropriate place to discuss CRM and Human Factors design
complexities.
