Vince makes some important distinctions between Traditional LOFT ( requires a
start-to-finish uninterrupted scenario); SPOT; and Segmented LOFT. We recognize
that even POI and AFS-230 are not always clear on these distinctions and the
mandated requirements of each. Would it be approprite to request AFS-230 to
convene a one-day roundtable discussion on these topics with representatives
from both industry and FAA? An expected outcome might be a clarification paper
that finds itrs way into the advisory circular.
As an aside, I have not seen an advance copy of the new advisory circular. If
anybody has seen one or knows where to find it, please let us all know. It
would be great to get these concerns clarified BEFORE the document is published.
