Group,

For any of you who have a regular need to search and/or "cut and paste"
from U.S., FAA or DOT regulations and publications, the "Computerized
Aviation Reference Library" compact disk from Summit Aviation can be
very useful. I have used it both at home and at work for several years
and have found it to be quite satisfactory.

It has very good search capabilities, and considering the very large
volume of material on the disk (just about everything the FAA publishes
plus other items like "Aerodynamics for Naval Aviators"), it is very
reasonably priced. I subscribe to quarterly updates, but it is also
available with other update frequencies.

To give you an example of its capabilities, I searched the Air Carrier
Operations Inspector's Handbook, AC 8400.10 (that Vince and Neil
referenced) for all occurrences of "CRM." It took less than two minutes
to discover that CRM was referenced 17 times, to look at each reference,
and then to cut and paste into another document the two references that
could apply to using CRM procedures during a proficiency check.

I also have a hard copy of 8400.10, and I can tell you that it would
have taken an infinite period of time to do the same thing, because I
would have given up going through the 8-inch-thick document long before
I finished.

For anyone interested, Summitt Aviation can be reached in the U.S. at
1-800-328-6280 or at http://www.summitaviation.com
