Good morning to all of you!!
I work in a small regional Airline that owns 11 Atr's and 5 Dorniers
228.
The Atr is a European built turboprop aircraft that seats 68 pax with a
mtow of 22000 Kgs.
The Dornier 228 is a German built light turboprop aircraft that seats 19
pax with mtow of 5980 Kgs.
My company almost hire low time pilots and train them to both types as
first officers.
As the time goes by these low time pilots become experienced crew and
upgrade to captains only in the light (Dornier )fleet first.
But according to me, the problem is that my company insists to use these
captains as first officers to the Atr fleet for the sake of economy.
So we have captains that fly as first officers to the Atr fleet for a
considerable period of time during one year period.
As you can understand there are the following phenomena:
Even we have written the roles and responsibilities, in practice
* The Captains cannot work effectively with ''captains'' who fly as
first officers
* The ''first officers'' cannot tolerate questionable commands from
the Captains
* The crew cannot work as a crew because every member of the cockpit
tries to prove to the other that is also a good captain
* With exemptions, the ''first officers'' do not fly the airplane as
good as they use to fly it because they have to be ''in shape'' for
the airplane they fly as captains.
* The new ''captains'' cannot normally adopt to the operation and the
mentality of a captain and when they achieve to manage it cannot
downgrade to first officers again.
I need your help in order to convince my company that keeping captains
as first officers for the sake of economy is not the smartest way to
save money.
If my company still wants to keep this status, how can we minimize the
risk of an accident due to the above mentioned reasons?
Please i would like to hear your opinion on that.
Thank you very much for your time
