Wendy from Pope AFB Writes;

"Hi everyone,
I'm starting a first-ever (local) CRM training program for a C-130 tactical
aeromedical evacuation unit at Pope AFB NC. Does anyone out there have some
information that would be useful to start up a program? Any help is greatly
appreciated!!!"

Wendy,

Welcome to the developers group! I think you will find that you have hit
the jackpot. There are several folks on this site who are directly
involved in military CRM program development. We have compiled an
extensive archive of CRM material (Thanks to the outstanding work of Neil
Krey) so there are several excellent resources for your new program. A
couple suggestions for your development efforts:

1: Contact Maj. Ken Bauer at the U.S. Air Force Pentagon Air Staff. Ken
is the primary point of contact for Air Force CRM at the Pentagon. Ken is
a member of this group and will probably pick-up on your request. Ken has
his finger on the pulse of what is going on in Air Force CRM on a strategic
as well as a unit level.

2. Contact Greg Deen and Dave Wilson from Raytheon Training. They are CRM
experts and C-130 experts! Greg and Dave are active members of this group
and have put some serious thought to making CRM work in the C-130.

3. Maj Jeff Swanson from the Air Force Reserve Command is another
excellent source of information. He is at AFRC DOT, Warner Robbins GA. He
is the point of contact for the AFRC supplement to the upcoming AFI. In my
opinion, the AFRC supplement to the AFI provides the most operationally
oriented approach to CRM that I have seen in the military services. It
focuses on CRM skill building in the flight briefing room, the aircraft,
and debriefing room. I would highly recommend that you obtain a copy of
the AFRC supplement from Maj. Swanson or Maj. Bauer.

4. One of the first things you will want to do in your development is to
compile a list of CRM skills. This skill list will become the foundation
of your program. It will provide a clear destination for your training
efforts. There are some excellent skill lists available in the Internet
archives of the CRM Developers Group. A good example of what a CRM skill
list looks like can be viewed at:
http://www.caar.db.erau.edu/crm/resources/paper/frmskills.html. The list
was compiled by 10th Air Force Stan Eval so it may provide an excellent
starting point for tailoring your own skill list.

5. There are a couple of email messages in the archives containing answers
to similar requests for creating CRM programs. There were some discussions
last month about CRM for small flight departments that highlighted some
strategies for building a low cost operational CRM program. You can view
all of last month's discussions by tuning your Internet Browser to:

Some specific discussions that you might find particularly useful can be
found at:

I hope that this helps you on an initial vector.
