Chris, We don't have anything published regarding mediated debriefs.
However, we use a very standardized and simple format which is the same one
taught and used by all our instructors during LOFT debriefings. One of our
instructors has written a paper explaining this procedure, which is given to
all LOFT instructors during their course. The technique was presented during
the CRM Conference at Ohio State and will be published along with the other
presentations by the conference organizers. However, using the same
technique during a mediated debrief takes a certain skill and experience
level. Not all our CRM instructors do mediated debriefs. Before they get to
that point, they normally have at least a year of teaching and using the
technique, and then watch several mediated debriefs. It can be a pretty
intense event at first. However, if the crew realizes that no one is trying
to point fingers of blame and the procedure is the same one used for LOFTs,
they tend to relax after a while.
