Subject: RE: leadership training
Dear CRM'ers
Nice conversation this one. I think any leadership program will fail if it
does not take into account some of the lessons learned from 20 years of
CRM-training:
-The program has to be tailor-made to your own organization. You can not
take a "off-the-shelf" program and expect it to work everywhere. You have to
know the strengths and weaknesses of your own organizational culture, know
how these factors influences leadership, and design the training with this
in mind.
-The program needs support from the management. Just like CRM, any
leadership training program is doomed if the principles and techniques being
thought do not have the full support of the management.
-The principles and techniques being thought has to bee reinforced
regularly. A leadership program can not be a "one-night-stand" (Is this good
English?!), but needs to be followed up in route-checks and recurrent
training.
-Evaluation is difficult. How do you know your program is working? In my
previous mail about this topic, I described the program in my company and
wrote: " we have arranged this training package six times, and it has been
very successful". But how do I know this? What is success? It is certainly
premature to say that a program is successful after six runs (sorry!). We
need to get out on the line and observe if the techniques being thought are
practiced. If not - it is back to the drawing board.
Best regards,
Jens R.
