Actually it seems to me that this is CRM gone wrong. This type of behaviour
must be considered to be the very last option. What follows this action could
be a recipe for disaster. We shouldn't laud this behaviour, but see it as a
break down of all that is taught in CRM. It is a desperate action in
desperate circumstances.

Cheers

Keith

Dear All,

I read this in (British) "Car" Magazine, March 1998 and thought it was a
nice example of CRM in action.

An article on the Dakar car rally discussed the problems the aircraft
experienced bringing in supplies to the drivers. I quote;
"Problems occurred on a daily basis, mostly involving undercarriages
bogged down in the sand, but on one memorable flight the journalists on
board listened in horror as the pilot and co-pilot argued on the
approach whether they'd make it or not. The pilot said yes, the co-pilot
no, until eventually the co-pilot slammed open the throttles and grabbed
the controls. The aircraft bounced on the runway, lifted off again and
missed the fuel dump by about 10 feet".
I would call that an example of assertive behaviour from a co-pilot!

Jo-Anne Hamilton.
