Steve

There are eyesight conditions that are normal in the workplace at
large, but unacceptable for a pilot. Legitimate discrimination (call
it 'penalisation' if you want) is everywhere. Entry to professions
requires attainment of qualifications beyond the reach of the less
academically-gifted. To get into Medical School at an Australian
university nowadays you must 'pass' a comprehensive personality
profiling exercise - to ensure you are the 'right type' to be a
doctor. I don't have any problems with requiring would-be pilots to
demonstrate that they possess a certain minimum level of capacity for
situational awareness and stress-tolerance. However, I'll be
interested in what the group thinks. (We were going to do 'Group
Think' were we not?)

Cheers
