This has been a very interesting exchange regarding automation. I'm glad
everyone is participating; obviously it has struck a chord with lots of
people.
To Chris: if you look in the AvWeek special issue regarding automation (end
of Jan/beginning of Feb 1995) you will find statements regarding airframe
manufacturers' automation philosophies from the manufacturers themselves.
To Dr. McCarthy: I fear you may have incurred the wrath of one John Bent
(Cathay Pacific Airlines) with your last posting!! John has some good
points regarding the automation philosophy of Airbus; if you can get ahold
of his paper (or a synopsis of it) regarding the A340 training experience
at Cathay, you may find that some of your preconceptions might shift.
