Good morning CRMers!

Happy to see Chris getting lots of assistance with his request for
automation philosophy information. One of the best papers I have seen on
the subject is by OSU's Charlie Billings. The cite is as follows:

---------
Toward a Human-Centered Aircraft Automation Philosophy
Charles E. Billings

International Journal of Aviation Psychology, 1991; vol. 1, pp. 261-270.

This article reviews the evolution of aircraft automation over the past
century, emphasizing the evolving role automated devices play in
assisting the human pilot. Discussions of anticipated and unanticipated
effects of automation and speculation on the role of the human operator in
future, more highly automated aircraft, are included.

Also, a paper I did long ago touches on the subject. You can find it at:

Delta Air Lines has a formal automation philosophy. Would one of our Delta
members be willing to post it here for the group?
