CRM competency indicators

An issue that has occupied me for some time is this: If we are to teach
it, then we must be able to define it and measure it. - For ‘it’ read
CRM.

Now it is well understood that CRM in the context of LOFT, should be a
non jeopardy process but none the less, if we are to claim that ‘CRM’
makes for better pilots, then (short of looking at ‘end of career’
accident rates) we really do need indicators to substantiate that claim.

The problem is further complicated when we look at the ab-initio case.
New pilots, who fly either single pilot of under instruction can clearly
benefit from CRM training and education but once again, what indicators
do we use to make that determination

Any contribution to what those ‘ab-initio indicators’ might be would be
appreciated.
