Having been training Flight Crew for some 6-7 years now we are about to
start doing base-line training for Cabin Crew.
I was wanting to know, what other operators were including in their initial
course, what the format was and any experiences that would be helpful when
designing initial training for cabin crew. I guess refresher training will
be the next request.

Chris,
Delta has been conducting initial and recurrent CRM training for flight
attendants for several years. This year the Delta Flight Attendant
Training folks completely reworked the initial CRM curricula. They used
the same systematic instructional systems design approach that the pilots
are using. They also used the same management skill categories that the
pilots are using. In fact, many other departments throughout the company
are adopting the same categorization scheme for management skills then
customizing the expectations for their positions. The ramp people have a
resource management program that also uses the same categorization. The
benefits of everyone using a common categorization for management skills
are obvious. The initial curriculum for flight attendant training includes
a couple classes that are taught by pilots and a class where new hire
pilots and new hire flight attendants are taught together. Since we are
trying to break down some of the communication barriers, this early
exposure is very beneficial.
I am going to ask the flight attendants at Delta Training to subscribe to
this listserver so they can join the conversation.
Also, Rebecca Chute at NASA Ames has done a considerable amount of work in
the area of Cabin Crew Training. She would be an excellent source for data
and insights for cabin crew training.
