At Air Canada we use eight Human Factor components when we measure
performance. These are
Communication Processes, Communication Style, Decision-making and
Problem-solving, Judgement Style, Team Enhancement, Workload management,
Situation Awareness and Feedback and Conflict Resolution. Finally we
evaluate overall crew effectiveness.
The Technical Components are Adhering to S.O.P.s, Instrument flying,
Aircraft handling, Automation management, ECAM discipline (on Airbus
products) and Emergency Procedures discipline (Boeing and Douglas) and
finally Overall Technical proficiency.
The key of course is not what you call the components but how does the
course designer convince the participants to transfer these skills to line
flying rather than paying lip service to the theory. This is the art of
CRM. course design. We call it the "'ah ha"' factor.
