G'Day Tom
Many thanks for incisive enlightenment re the law. (I was out of my
depth and feeling lonely.) Is it not also true to say to people who see
liability law as a trap for them, personally, that it is really only
acting so as to protect ... ? (Hugo will supply any analysis needed to
support a conclusion of paranoia.) And another thing. The Common Law
being based on precedent, surely it's understandable that Aviation,
before its 100th year, will be less 'legally mature' than, say,
Medicine, after only several thousand?
I once worked at the corner of 16th amd Mass. in Washington, over the
road from the NRA building. They have chiselled into the foundation
stone of their HQ the famously incomplete quote from the US Constitution
on the right to bear arms. But, complete or not, I think we have to
admit, the quote has been an effective slogan for promoting their cause,
no matter your personal view on the merits of said cause.
As you point out, the merits of the CRM cause are absolute - being
aligned with certain tenets of natural justice (perhaps as in '... we
hold these truths to be self-evident ...'. That being the case, I
suggest we of the community engrave your words into the CRM HQ's (a
fabulous building soon to be erected, get your dues in, please)
foundation stone:
'... the purpose of CRM must be to insure the expectations of safety of
the public at large are met by the actions of the crew.'
Cheers
