Hugo,
As Vince Mancuso always says "CRM can solve all the problems". Many are
the times that I shake my head in amazement at what I've come to call
"American Mismanagement Practices". Of course it's not just an American
thing, but it's a management style based on system management not people
management. Many managers need People Management 101. They continue to hire
the wrong people for the wrong job, demand that the stop behaving like people
( 5-8% of the work force is late to work everyday for real people reasons)
including making human errors. So they do things to get rid of those erring
people only to hire more erring people. People are people, rouges are every
where, aviation, medicine, attorneys, everywhere there are people. The
underlying nut to crack is not more and more CRM but rather an emphasis on
managing people in general. To me CRM is a subset of those skills. Many
mishaps I review elude to things like who put this crew together, to do what,
with what resources? Challenger, Trident, VietNam and so many more show a
fundamental lack of managers not able to successfully manage people.
It's a cultural thing. I've always thought that if the manager manages the
people they will manage the mission.
