We worked with PeoplExpress during the mid-eighties and we were quite
impressed with the airline, including their dedication, standards and flight
performance. I came from a background of 38 years with the majors, and yet I
found this pilot group to be one of the best I had ever seen. It was a sad day
when they closed their doors.

You mentioned their CRM skills. This course was our first effort based purely
on Specific Behavioral Objectives. It was later adopted by SAS and shortly
thereafter became the QUANTUM-PRO Management System, to our knowledge, the
first management system in the world designed for flight crews. PEX was about
half way through the course when the roof fell in. It had the makings of a
great airline but for some reason was always written off as "just another
start-up" by the majors. You are quite right in saying they frequently went
"beyond the call of duty to try to help customers and the airline survive.".
