Here's an Idea, or two

Need some research topics?
1. How do I, a dedicated CRM facilitator, REALLY KNOW that the training in
the classroom goes to the airplane? Lately, I've put students under pressure
in a classroom to tell me what they would do in a situation we've studied.
Sometimes, they hesitate to answer, and I pressure them more with the
challenge: if you can't think of an answer in a low-threat classroom, do you
really think you'll do something in the airplane?
They write up a great critique saying they are now prepared to "fly
safe", but are they really?

2. In a recent discussion of stressors and their effects on aviators, the
class came up with an interesting question. The regulations and classroom
will teach an aviator to avoid getting into the airplane if they are NOT fit
to fly. We can find numerous cases where an aviator was not coping with his
life stressors, and he was involved in a crash. We wonder why someone did
not stop the aviator, especially himself.
What if getting into the airplane was a RELIEF from stress? Is it
possible, that an aviator who is dealing with lots of stress, is more relaxed
by being in a "controlled" environment, such as a highly regulated cockpit?
Do we ever go to work, to relax?

I'll think of some more later.
