The focus of most training in the airline industry is dealing with negative
situations. In the flight sim we learn critical manuvers that although
rarely used are necessary to deal with unusual events. Little if any
effort is spent on the concept of excellence. Economy has led us to "train
to proficeincy". A training organization should nurture continuing
education as part of the company culture. The organization defines
excellence through its own reward system. If we train to the lowest common
denominator then that is how we define excellence. We need to promote the
positive and reward role models. Gerry
