Training Organization Role in Airmanship

Good Monday CRMers!

We have made good progress on our discussion of airmanship, covering the
definition of excellence, self-assessment, and even the art of aviation.
Please feel free to continue those discussions.

I would now like to start talking about something which Tony Kern
suggested. To my knowledge, this is something we have never tackled
here on CRM-DEVEL, but I believe it is a critical element in helping our
crews grow as airmen throughout their careers. The topic is:

What role should the training organization play throughout
the career of the airmen it is responsible for? Should
the trainer spoon feed the information and skills the crews
"need to know" or should it take on the role of cheerleader
(with a budget) to support the crew members as they pursue
excellence in airmanship?

Most of us here on this list are either directly involved in the
training organization, or reside in an organization which supports that
function in some way. The rest of us likely are the users of the
training organization's services.

What do YOU think the training department should be doing to support
excellence in airmanship?

Best regards,
Neil Krey
