Self-Assessment would help me out tremendously. In the last month, we have
had three work induced illnesses due to one or combinations of
factors--improper nutrition, sleep, physical conditioning. How do we teach
these personnel to realize their limits?

Randy, I know of two simplistic self-assessment techniques that may be
useful. In teaching aircrews about risk assessment and situational awareness
we emphasize that the one resource they know they will have is themselves.
The question is how fit am I to handle the situation? Is the uneasiness (we
call it a "pinch") I am feeling due to some outside influence or me? In both
cases a level of self-assessment is necessary. We use the IM SAFE model where
I=illness, M=medication, S=stress, A=alcohol, F=fatigue, and E=eating. Those
elements can be blended into a "go-no-go" checklist for personal evaluation
as to fitness to do the required tasks.

I heard of another model DEATH, where D=drugs, E=eating, A=alcohol,
T=tobacco, and H=health.

Hope this is useful,
