This is a most interesting insight. I often challenge students in the CRM
seminars as to WHY aviators are prone to do certain things, and resist doing
others. For example:
Why would a crew be reluctant to get on the radio and call for
additional information from external "available resources"?

Why would a pilot be reluctant to initiate a "go around"?

The most common answer I get is "peer pressure".

When I then ask why a professional organization such as aviators would
transmit "dysfunctional" peer pressure, the answer I get is "that's the way
it's always been done."
