What is the "open day event"? I'm not familiar with the term, but it appears
that this "training event" gives the pilot permission, or at least implies
such, to practice something during the flight. That's probably neither error
nor violation, but instead an aviator taking a licensed opportunity to
improve his skills.
If there is company policy about making schedules, and conserving fuel, this
may be a violation.
Just a thought.
