Vince Mancuso recently called your attention to an article on
managing cockpit interruptions and distractions by Robert Sumwalt, Grant
Young, and myself. (December issue of ASRS Directline at
http://olias.arc.nasa.gov/asrs). I am soliciting volunteers to participate
in a follow-up study. This involves spending about an hour filling out a
questionnaire, which seeks to find out what, if any, personnal techniques
experienced pilots use to manage interruptions, distractions, and
concurrent tasks. The questionnaire consists of 9 short scenarios taken
from ASRS reports.
Neil Krey has graciously posted the questionnaire on the CRM
Developers site; you can reach it at:
ftp://www.caar.db.erau.edu/pub/crm/nasasrvy.doc. Or I could mail you a
hardcopy if you prefer. If you would be willing to fill out the
questionnaire, you can mark your answers directly on the form and send it
back to me by email (kdismukes_at_mail.arc.nasa.gov) or post:

You may find that there are no good answers for some of the
scenarios; if so just leave those questions blank or indicate that good
techniques are not available. Even questionnaires with most of the
questions answered this way would help us know the extent to which
techniques for managing concurrent tasks are available.
You do not need to put your name on the questionnaire if you prefer
to remain anonymous.
Many thaks for helping with this research project. We will keep
you informed about the results.
