Excellent point! As a LOFT facilitator and CRM developer its encouraging
to hear from the psychology department regarding all the new "fifth
generation stuff thats out there. I'm a pilot who has never set foot in a
psyc class but I have been involved with CRM since the late 70's. The new
directions that this type of training is taking is exciting and at the same
time frustrating for the likes of me. Don't get me wrong, we need more
info on all of the Human Factors issues but we also need to keep in mind
that flight crew have to understand and be able to apply what we teach. No
matter what we come up with as a new and improved version of CRM; if we
can't teach pilots and flight attendants to apply it in the field it is
useless. For the New Year and beyond lets keep working hard at making it
practical as well!
