My emphasis was not on the "not knowing" but on the importance of the
PROCESS of thinking about, visualising, rehearsing, training etc in
preparing oneself for a potential stressor. The same point you are
making l think but in a different way. There may be the occasion however
that a situation may be so overwhelming / traumatic for the individual
that no amount of preparation will suffice. Again, knowledge / training
that this may occur and is within the "normal" range of human responses
may help to reduce the level of trauma experienced.
