I know about the 'panic attack cycle'. But isn't that about chronic,
rather than short-term anxiety? What I'm getting at is different, I
hope. If the engine goes out on take-off in the Cessna 310 at maz AUW,
I am going to have to get everything right, and promptly. I will
experience anxiety. It has the potential to degrade my decision-
making. If, from the sort of workouts I practise (and advocate), I am
thoroughly familiar with how anxiety affects me, then I'll have more
credible grounds for confidence in my performance under engine-out
stress. If I don't routinely exercise my cognitve resilience, then I
might believe I'll get the emergency reactions right, but there may
still be a niggling doubt. Which, when the engine does quit, might
just add to the anxiety burden sufficiently to tranform a pass into a
fail.
Does that make sense?
Cheers
Doug
