RE: second go-around.. I have not seen this but it may be there. I know of
two events, one I was on and the other I knew the F/O. In the first event,
the Capt made 3 approaches all with misses and was aligning for a fourth
when I mentioned that we might want to think about fuel remaining and we
then diverted. The other event was where a Capt made 4 approaches and was
later called in to explain. A pax had written the FAA and company
complaining about the numerous go-arounds.
Most of the guys I know and have talked to about going around general
subscribe to the idea that if the first approach was missed, come back for
a second...if it is the same, miss and go to the alternate. No third
approaches.
