British Airways. They have done this for years and defend it to the end!
There was a very lively (read abusive) discussion on the issue on PPrune
recently. I agree it's weird, but it works for them.
I have had cause to initiate a Go-Around once long ago as an F/O. The
circumstances are irrelevant, but I didn't raise the gear (!) just said, "I
have control,.... Go-Around, Flaps 20". Once the autopilot was engaged and
we were safely climbing out I handed back the airplane to a very sheepish
Captain. After a very stable approach and landing, he apologized and it all
ended there.
Raising the gear would have very noisy consequences as all sorts of
warnings would be triggered and cause chaos in the flight deck. Obviously
some sort of verbal "trigger" such as John Bent mentioned is the answer,
perhaps we can work on one right here.
That's all folks, back to lurk mode.
