Extremes

One of the pet things that some people try to interject into every CRM
class is a discussion of a situtation which leads to the subordinate (
first officer ) wresting control of the aircraft from the legal aircraft
commander. They always want to start at the point of no return, as if
nothing led up to it, and fish for some response from the facilitator that
something akin to mutiny is sanctioned. If they get the normal response,
that the second in command must act, then they say " ah hah! CRM usurps the
authority I have as a captain and is therefore a bunch of bunk. To me CRM
is about what happens leading up to the event that is in extremis, to help
the crews avoid getting there in the first place. Anyone see the High and
the Mighty lately? Interesting movie about crew issues.
