I was intrigued by the statistical analysis on why somebody would not go
around
when necessary. As a pilot having to describe to other pilots a mental
model on how
to palways prepeare for a go aorund i usually compare it to take off when a
decision is
always made to go or to stop. A similar decision is made during the
approach on whether
to go ahead and land or go around for any reason. This i have noticed makes
it more plausible
to pilots to contemplate this decision point on every approach.

On another point doing the approach and switching over at DH is mentioned
in the OPS
manual of our A300B4s but is not company policy, just another way of doing
the job. I do not
know of anyone who practices it.

BTW in Greece we do not see the aircraft as an extension of ourselves but
as a female entity:)

Just my 2 drs.

Michael
