Sally,
In my experience both as an applied behavioral psychologist, working with
mentally ill and mentally handicapped, as well as a C-5 flight engineer for 21
years with the Air Force Reserve, unruly passangers can be spotted in the
terminal or at least as they board. Performing "Scanner" duties on the C-5 we
would watch passangers closely for the obvious, contraband, weapons (never
know what some young soldiers will carry on to an airplane, and more
importantly behavior indicators of misconduct. It's easy to spot the weaving
walker, the intent somber folks as ways got a comment. I seen passangers board
commercial aircraft that in my opinion could have been given a DWW (drunk
while walking) and sure enough the were problems. I remember one time when six
guys enter totally blasted, ordered several beers at a time, mlots a lude and
crude remarks and got no notice from the cabin crew. When I said something to
the FA she solved the problem by giving them free beer if the promised to be
quiet. They were drinking upon touchdown. Yes. I did say something to the
Captain and he was astounded. Common sense goes a long way.
