Good question!

Back in the Middle Ages when I did my Command Training (OK it was only
three years ago, it feels like forever) one Training
Captain I have a lot of respect for said he looks for three things in his
Command candidates.

The first was a gimme, the ability to fly the airplane well and know the
systems etc. The second was the ability to make sound decisions. The
third, being able to communicate this to the relevant people, and see
that it carries out.

Simple really, but something I try to always remember.

Ok, over to the experts now.
