The introductory training sessions can include a mixture of life skill
application, scenario review, then simulator exercises. This provides a
balanced, fast paced, interesting training process at a reasonable
cost.
Once actively flying, the students with "trained in" CRM skills, can and
usually will, demonstrate the skills earlier and with more confidence.
Given that CRM training is premised in communication and teamwork, the
myth that any instructor is an "absolute authority and all-knowing",
will hopefully be put to rest soon. If by none other than the student
group!!! My student group demands, that I walk the talk. I must be
able to both discuss CRM on an intellecutal level, then put it into
practice. Once CRM is "seen" in action on a day to day basis, the buy
in is 100% and the leadership role greatly enhanced.
One format in introductory CRM training, is to organize the sessions so
that the participants "teach" themselves, through group discussion and
discovery. Then the "new knowledge" can be shaped into tangible,
practical, flight skills.
It takes time and patience to develop a program that meets the needs of
all the stakeholders, but it's worth it. Have fun with it Andy!!
