As a footnote to my earlier reply, if your Finnish friend has not already
done so, you could ask him to gain a local perspective by talking to Matti
Sorsa in the flight training area at Finnair. Matti is an airline captain
and a psychologist, very well versed in the international HF arena. He has
participated in many IFALPA, IATA and ICAO HF working groups and panels, and
has been a strong contributor to the European Av Psych scene for many years.
He may give your colleague another perspective to mine. My understanding is
that Finnair do not recruit ex-military pilots any more, as they take all
they need through their ab initio cadet scheme (as do some other European
airlines), preferring to have them develop from the beginning within the
Finnair culture...
