This accident is important in that the aircraft just happened to have "AA"
painted on the tail. The accident is about people, automation, and a weak
defensive aviation system. It has nothing to do with American Airlines. The
accident is generic, but serves as a way to talk about these human factors
issues. There are othere automation accidents/ incidents worth talking about
also, but Cali is the first time we have 30 minutes of recorded HF/automation
errors across a whole range of HF issues.
