Regarding selection:
In my opinion it depends on who you want to select, and for what reason. To
be more precise:
a) selecting from 1000 untrained candidates and the purpose is to find the
stuff that most likely will succeed basic flying school within given limits

is different from

b)selecting good pilots for your airline company from candidates with 2000
hours experience from light twins.

Most validation studies regarding prediction is done regarding the first
condition mentioned, and mostly for military service.

A place to start is to reveiw the work of the englishman Eugene Burke, a
senior within selection litterature.
