=====Guillermo: Some thoughts on the subject ...There was an accident in
China about two? years ago where the pilot lost SA due primarily to the fact
that Russian airplanes have a ground pointer on the ADI and the American
airplanes have Sky pointers. In this case, the 737 had entered an unusual
attitude due to autoflight problems and the pilot became confused and tried
to spit-S the airplane instead of roll out and pull up. My thought would
be that when pilots become confused...excessive computer power is used up
trying to figure out what is going on and the throughput of needed control
data is nonexistant. In this particular case, the pilot had flown Russian
equipment for most of his short life.
It has been my observation that almost any pilot will go into a state like
this when he runs into something that he does not understand. The recent
757 accidents also relate to this kind of problem. The negative training
will sometimes come to the forefront when the confused state is entered.
