Hello Tim,
Arnetha Schatz, Dispatch Resource Mgmt. facilitator and courseware developer
for American Eagle Airline. This year marks the second year of DRM training for
Eagle. Prior to the development of my Dispatch Initial and Recurrent, I spent
several months getting educated on the concepts of CRM and the evolution of
Cockpit Resource Management. What I found was that the Advisory Circular on DRM
is a good place to start your program. Many of the elements involved in CRM
are the same skills necessary in DRM. Air Ontario accident 1363 at Dryden
might be useful in the development of your program. The accident highlights
the important role the dispatcher has in the operation of the flight. In
addition to flight 1363, Avianca 052 that crashed in New York illustrates the
need for trained, effective dispatchers. At American Eagle for my 1997
Recurrent I focused on communication and developed videos to show the need for
good briefing between dispatchers. For the 1998 Recurrent my focus is on
situational awareness and workload mgmt, I have developed videos that focuses
on these elements from the dispatchers point of view. I'm also using the
videos in the Pilot CRM initial and recurrent to give the pilot groups insight
into what their resource the dispatcher has to deal with daily. If you are
interested I invite you to come visit and see if there is anything we are doing
here that you can use. What I found when trying to put together my programs
was that there wasn't very much DRM material out there...so we were forced to
develop our own, however the CRM developer group is a great please to pick up
ideals and help.
