Dear Konstantin :
I am interested in cultural issues existing in aviation communities.
Someone said to me before that the caltural differences are well
explained by taking an example of various national sports which are
being enjoyed in many countries. For example, most of Japanese like
Sumo Wrestling, while many Americans enjoy Basket Ball. These two games
apparently vary in rules, number of players, uniforms( What for Sumo
Wrestlers ? ), playing fields, but seem to have a common factor with
each other. It is to say that both of these sports are supported by
fans who have common human nature of being excited in watching selected
human players fighting in a peaceful manner with their maximum effort
and proficiency. This examle suggests that variety of national sports
has two aspects : one is referred to the cultures which are unique to
nationalites, locations, climate, etc. and the other to the common
human nature which still remains among different national sports. Human
Factors, of course, has to deal with both aspects of human behaviour. I
personally think that understanding and sharing the widely accepted
Human Factors concept among all the nations on the globe would help in
solving cultural issues as stated in your mail. Common Human Factors
concept, if well established, could make the world seamless.
